VOC Risk Monitoring from Vapor Intrusion

Vista installed more than 20 nests of vapor monitors overlying a TCE plume migrating off the former Lowry AFB. Initial studies had indicated the potential for upward migrating TCE vapor to impact residences off base. Longer term monitoring was accomplished by installing permanent vapor monitors, varying from 1 to 3 per hole (in profile). In addition, Vista and its client developed a novel procedure for sampling beneath the building slabs in such a way as to minimize the naturally occurring variations due to barometric pumping, construction methods, and subsidence of the slab itself over time. The vertical vapor profiles were combined with the sub-slab and indoor air sampling to validate modeling procedures. Samples were collected in Summa canisters for GC/MS analysis.
